Torraspapel is a company guided by principles of excellence and environmental protection. As such, it is constantly seeking to counteract any negative impact its activities may have on the environment. The company’s environmental goals and commitments are being met, and each goal achieved leads to fresh goals being set.

Certifications

An environmental management system accredited according to the strictest international standards.

EMAS Certification for 100% of production in 2010.

Increase the amount of purchased cellulose from certified forest plantations.

70% of purchased cellulose from certified forests in 2010.

Climate Change

Quantify the emissions generated in the life cycle of our products.

A study to calculate carbon footprint in 2010.

Reduce energy consumption.

Maintain specific energy consumption of less than 2 MWh/t for coated paper production.

Transparency

Communicate the environmental characteristics of products in a transparent and comparable way.

All Torraspapel products available with the “Paper Profile” Declaration in 2009.

Inform stakeholders of objectives and actions derived from environmental policy.

Publication of Environmental Report and other environmental leaflets on a regular basis, in addition to informing of actions and projects on the Torraspapel web site.

Reduced environmental impact

Maintain a leadership position in reducing environmental impact.

Keep dry sludge discharged below 16 kg/t, and water use below 15 m3/t.

Expand the parameters for measuring environmental impact.

Report nitrogen and phosphorous values contained in effluents, and SO2 and NOx released into the atmosphere.
