Torraspapel Employees Donate Their Books on International Literacy Day!

 10/6/2008

Torraspapel carries out diverse projects of a social nature proposed by its employees and in collaboration with NGOs and non-profit organizations.

The primary focus of these activities has always been contributing to childrens' education; a concept closely linked to Torraspapel's manufacturing activity, given that paper is one of the basic elements used transmitting culture and education.

In this context and coinciding with International Literacy Day, celebrated on September 8, the Torraspapel's employees in Barcelona were able to assist in the education of children throughout the world through the campaign Donate your books on International Literacy Day!, organized in collaboration with the Spanish NGO Interlibros.

This initiative consisted in the donation of books in Spanish in good condition for children and young adults, ranging from fiction to reference books such as dictionaries, atlases and encyclopedias.

The results were extremely positive. Thanks to the contributions of everyone involved, the Interlibros association will be able to distribute among various projects in Central and South America the 159 books that were donated, thereby making access to reading and knowledge far easier for children in this part of the world.

However, many forgotten books still remain in people's homes which could have a new, useful life in the hands of many young people who wish to study and learn. For this reason, Interlibros proposes on its web page www.interlibros.org a number of ways to collaborate both for companies and individuals.

This most recent volunteer initiative is in keeping with the Torraspapel's commitment to social responsibility as reflected in its corporate mission and values.
