FAQS

What does cast-coated paper offer that coated paper does not?

The main characteristic of cast-coated paper is its smooth, glossy surface. This grants it certain unique characteristics that make it ideal for many labeling applications. The smooth gloss finish highlights ink gloss and contrast when it comes time to print. This feature is valued particularly in certain high quality applications such as labels for wine, spirits and perfume bottles.

Another important characteristic is the specific volume or bulk of cast-coated paper. In the manufacturing process of cast-coated paper, the paper is not subjected to pressure, allowing paper caliper to remain high. For this reason, cast-coated paper has a rough back, a characteristic which facilitates the labeling process as the glue is well received on the back.

Eurokote paper is very apt for post-printing processes such as relief stamping, embossing, hot-stamping, etc.
Cast-coated paper is available in a wide range of substances, from 80 to 350 g/m², as the manufacturing process is applicable to any grammage of paper.
These characteristics make cast-coated paper visually very attractive, highlighting work and print quality, and even suggesting feel and texture.

What are the technical requirements of cast-coated paper for self-adhesive labels?

Eurokote A possesses all the intrinsic characteristics required of any quality paper to be used for self-adhesive labels: substance, humidity and smoothness, resulting in a high-quality appearance, a smooth finish and high mechanical resistance to breaking and tearing.

These ensure perfect performance on the self-adhesive manufacturing line as well as during the manufacturing process of the label itself This grade is also available in a WS (wet-strength) variety for moisture-resistant labels and returnable bottles. Regarding technical requirements for printing, Eurokote A papers have an extremely smooth surface which permits printing very fine screens, with high quality print results.

Eurokote is suited to offset and flexographic printing with conventional and UV inks, as well as to rotogravure, and allows for the application of oil-based, acrylic or UV varnishes. Silk screen applications and stamping are also possible.

What are the main applications for Eurokote cast-coated paper?

Eurokote cast-coated paper is mainly used for self-adhesive labels and packaging in general. It is also used in the graphic arts sector.

Eurokote A and A WS are used in industrial applications: as facestock for the self-adhesive label production. These grades are available in 80, 83 and 90 g/m². They are ideal as facestock for labels on wine, sparkling wine, spirits, water and perfume bottles, as well as for food, hygiene and cleaning product labels.

In the graphic arts and packaging sectors, Eurokote, with its substances of 180 to 350 g/m², is very well suited for printing and manufacturing cases and boxes for the cosmetic, perfume and liquor industries or as a graphic substrate for the production of folders, files and lids.
