Torraspapel, part of the Lecta Group, maintains as one of the basic elements of its corporate culture a real commitment to the environment and sustainable development, which is materialised in the performance of its business activity and which is shared by everyone who is part of the company, from management to all of its employees.
This commitment was made public in 2004 with the definition of Torraspapel's environment policy and the publication of the first Report, which laid down specific goals and commitments in terms of respecting the environment. This second Environmental Report tracks progress towards accomplishing the commitments we set out to fulfil and also sets new challenges for the future.
As the contents of the Report show, the most noteworthy advances in environmental matters are related to:
- sustainable forest management and obtaining of chain-of-custody certifications
- minimising water use and discharge in manufacturing processes
- reducing solid waste sent to waste disposal sites
- optimising energy consumption
- reducing specific greenhouse gas emissions
These actions stem from an environmental policy that entails continuous improvement within the company.
It must not be forgotten that, along with environmental sustainability, Torraspapel includes a commitment to social responsibility in its Corporate Mission and Values. This commitment is materialised in specific actions like reforestation projects and volunteer days, collaboration with Graphic Arts schools, and Torraspapel's adhesion to the United Nations' Global Pact since 2004, whose Progress Report describes the company's compliance with the Pact's ten principles in matters of human rights, employment, the environment and the fight against corruption.
