New Railway Branch Line for Goods Transport at Torraspapel's Zaragoza Mill

 5/1/2006

The project results in substantial environmental and social improvement for the local community, eliminating the need for 17,000 lorry journeys every year.

Torraspapel, part of the Lecta group, further to its commitment to protect the environment, has completed its adaptation of the Zaragoza plant structure to accommodate the construction of a new train line.

The main environmental impacts caused by road transport derive from the emission into the atmosphere of pollutants resulting from the use of non-renewable fossil fuels in vehicle engines.

The railway line and its station will enable direct transport of wood and pulp using this fast, flexible and high-quality means of transport, thereby reducing the need for road transport. The result will be a decrease in road traffic of over 17,000 lorry journeys a year through the Montañana neighbourhood where the factory is located, thus reducing noise and CO2 emissions.

Torraspapel is firmly committed to reducing environmental impact stemming from its activity, particularly that which directly affects the local communities of which it is a member. Our goal is to continually promote interaction with those communities and support their economic growth and social development.
