Social and Humanitarian aspects
In line with our corporate mission, Torraspapel is pursuing new forms of action that go beyond environmental issues to take in social and humanitarian projects and support for educating and training professionals as well.
Torraspapel joined the United Nation's Global Compact in 2004, embracing the ethical commitment of the Pact's Ten Principles for conduct and action regarding Human Rights, Labour Standards, the Environment and Anti-Corruption as an integral part of the company's strategy, culture and everyday work. Torraspapel submits its progress report to the Global Compact every year, specifying the progress made in each of those areas.
In 2002, Torraspapel launched a project for working with Graphic Arts schools by offering guided tours of its factories so that the students could gain first-hand knowledge of the papermaking process, and by giving talks and lectures in those schools. Torraspapel also contributed educational materials for the classes, sample ranges, and paper for their printing workshops. Torraspapel's aim in this cooperation work is to share the deep knowledge of paper and its manufacture that the company has accumulated over its long history, thus enriching the graphic-arts students' training. Each year, over 3,500 students take part in some of the activities offered or receive teaching materials produced by Torraspapel as part of this project.
All the actions carried out by Torraspapel in the framework of social responsibility are reported in the printed that is sent out to all our employees, as well as being posted on the company's website. The website sections devoted to the Environment and Social Responsibility Projects received over 11,000 visits in 2006.
