Don Quixote and Torraspapel in Torraspapel’s II Design Contest for Graphic Arts Students
"> April 2005
For the second consecutive year, students involved in Torraspapel’s collaboration project with Spanish graphic arts schools have participated in our Design Contest, which has Don Quixote as the theme this year.
Taking advantage of the commemoration of the fourth centennial of Don Quixote’s publication, we have wanted to bring the most popular work of Spanish literature closer to graphic arts students. To do so, we have asked participants to study the work, its characters, adventures, misfortunes and dreams, and transform their knowledge in a bookmark.
As a result, we have obtained a wide response with diverse themes for all audiences, from new and innovative ideas to more traditional ideas regarding Don Quixote.
After evaluating over 160 works, the winners were chosen by a jury of professional design and graphic arts specialists, as well as those in charge of Torraspapel’s Marketing and Communications Department.
The first prize winner was Israel de Francisco from the Escola del Treball of Barcelona. In his work he has reflected how Don Quixote has come to represent the world of books, culture and literature. Second prize went to Raul Lumeras, also from the Escola de Treball.
The two winners received an iBook laptop computer and a Kodak EasyShare digital camera, respectively, and their school will receive checks for the amounts of 1,500 and 1,000 euros.
This initiative, included in the framework of Torraspapel’s Collaboration Project with Graphic Arts schools, is another demonstration of our commitment to culture and education in general and to promising new talents in graphic arts in particular.
Torraspapel thanks all those who participated for their effort and enthusiasm. Both the quality and number of works submitted was noteworthy.
